Do you always have to worry of having no cash to pay for your cab? Are you mad because the taxi driver doesn't have any change for your 1000 Dirham bill (lol that only means you're rich!)? Well, don't worry anymore!
Almost all Dubai Taxis are now being equipped with card payment machines that are GPRS-enabled and they will now be accepting payments via Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and even Nol cards! Yes, you read that right, Dubai Taxis will now be accepting card payments for your taxi fare and that would be so cool! I don't know if you can pay it in installments too haha.. Yes 15 dirhams 1 year to pay with 0% interest.. just kidding :)
This initiative was introduced by Roads and Transports Authority or RTA last year 2014 and has been implemented in some taxis coming from Dubai Airports. An extra charge of 2 AED (around $ 0.50) will be added for credit card payments while 1 AED (around $0.25) additional charge will be added for Nol card payments.
Taxi passengers will also be able to pay via their mobile devices thru NFC or Near Field Communication (NFC) video below on how to use it and what is NFC (I also didn't know too much about it):
For payment via NFC-enabled mobile devices, customers can purchase special NFC-enabled SIM cards from their service provider in order to use this mode of payment.
